LGBTQ Resources: Welcome

What does it mean?

LGBTQ is an acronym that stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Queer, and is used to designate a community of people whose sexual or gender identities can create shared political and social concerns. The LGBTQ acronym does not encompass everybody and different organisations may use fewer or more letters, for example, an ‘I’ to indicate Intersex people.

Welcome to the research guide for LGBTQ studies. Click on the tabs above to find:

  • Reference materials, like dictionaries and encyclopedias, that will help you gain a basic understanding of LGBTQ concepts.
  • Books, in print and digital formats, that will help you build a broad understanding of LGBTQ topics.
  • Databases, that will allow you to locate and access LGBTQ research articles.
  • Web resources, including websites and multimedia materials, that can help you put the finish touches on a research assignment, or help you narrow your topic to begin your research.

Be sure to hover over the titles of listed resources to find summaries of their contents, and contact a librarian for additional assistance.
