Use the tips below to put the finishing touches on your presentation. The presentation should be 5 minutes maximum. Each presentation will be followed by approximately 2 minutes of questions from the judges.
The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) describes "Scholarship as Conversation" as "[c]ommunities of scholars, researchers, or professionals engage[d] in sustained discourse with new insights and discoveries occurring over time as a result of varied perspectives and interpretations." Participants in the Celebration of Research will be contributing to scholarly conversations in the disciplines for which they have undertaken their research projects. Participants should be prepared to evaluate and cite the work of others who have contributed to that scholarly conversation. They should also be prepared to clearly and succinctly convey to a general audience the place of their research in that conversation. As the ACRL has noted, "Developing familiarity with the sources of evidence, methods, and modes of discourse in the field assists novice learners to enter the conversation. New forms of scholarly and research conversations provide more avenues in which a wide variety of individuals may have a voice in the conversation. Providing attribution to relevant previous research is also an obligation of participation in the conversation. It enables the conversation to move forward and strengthens one’s voice in the conversation."
