Open Educational Resources: About OER

What Are Open Educational Resources?

Open Educational Resources (OER) are any teaching, learning, or research materials that are licensed to be freely used and often can be re-purposed by others, depending on licensing. OER can be entire courses or textbooks, research papers, course material, videos, software, tests, data, or any printed and digitial tools that might help educate.

Using OER can benefit students by significantly reducing the cost of education for students. They also allow instructors to customize their courses by selecting content rather than just taking what the publisher provides.
