Lakeland Library Newsletter: June 2025

Find all of your latest Library news here!

Welcome!

Welcome to the Lakeland Library Newsletter!  Each month, we will showcase classes, events, and other fun and interesting facts about the Library and our staff. We will also keep you informed of new resources and services that are designed to assist you in your course work, and personal and professional lives.

Introducing...

Anne Wendel

Anne Wendel, Circulation Services Assistant

Please help us welcome Anne Wendel to Lakeland Library's Circulation staff! Anne previously worked for Lakeland's Part time faculty office. A fun fact about Anne is that she believes small acts of kindness can have a big impact and she tries to live that out every day, through volunteering. One of Anne's favorite roles is being a part of a card writing team where they celebrate milestones and support others through hardships with handwritten notes/ cards. Anne says "It is a simple way to show people they are not alone. It may brighten someone's day or bring comfort during a difficult time." Anne also volunteers with the Lake County Council of Aging as a shopper for seniors. Each week she picks up groceries and essentials for older adults who may not be able to go on their own. Anne says "It is more than running errands, I believe, it's building trust, exchanging stories and sometimes just being there to take a minute to talk and check in."

New Books

Check out these new books, available in our library!

Stop by the library on the 3rd floor of C-building to browse new books. The new books shelf is located across from the reference desk.

Library Services Platform (LSP) Migration Update

Happening now:

  • The new Primo search is here! Give it a try by navigating to the library homepage in myLakeland and clicking the Primo search button.
  • What's so great about Primo? The new Primo search combines content from the former Lakeland catalog, OhioLINK catalog, and many of our databases in one streamlined search interface. You can search for books, e-books, academic research articles, newspapers, magazines, and streaming media in one place! Primo also has new tools, including speech-to-text (use the microphone icon), digitization of book chapters, and an AI assistant for quick research help.
  • Workshops on the new Primo search will be offered in Fall 2025, but reference librarians are available now for individual tutorials!
  • Please note, Primo will continue to be updated and streamlined throughout the summer.

Happening Summer, 2025:

  • Both FiSH and the new Primo VE search will run for summer sessions. After June 9th, summer classes will have the option of using FiSH or Primo VE to search for books, e-books, and articles. We will completely switch to the new Primo VE search in early August, after summer classes end.
  • All research guides (LibGuides) and library homepages will be updated with new Primo VE links. Lakeland catalog (Lakeland books) and OhioLINK catalog (OhioLINK books) links have been removed. FiSH links will be removed in August.
  • All information literacy session handouts will be updated to reflect the new resources.
  • All library video tutorials will be updated.
  • Instructors: Please reach out if you have a library resource embedded in your Blackboard course site and you think it may need to be updated!

Did You Know?

Lakeland Library has Accomplished a Complete Digital Refresh!

All together, Lakeland Library has worked for over a year implementing the following new research resources and upgrades to ensure Lakeland students, faculty, and staff have a more up-to-date, streamlined, and user-friendly searching experience:

  • The new Primo search is now available, and you can start requesting OhioLINK and Interlibrary loan resources again!
  • Over twenty new EBSCO databases and two new Sage databases have been acquired and are ready for you to explore.
  • All EBSCO databases (80 of them!) have been updated and new Interlibrary Loan forms and links to Primo have been incorporated.
  • All LibGuides (over 100 of them!) are being updated, with access to new resources.
  • With the help of IT, the Library's myLakeland homepage will continue to be updated.
  • Believe it or not, there are more great library research resources coming in Fall 2025 and Spring 2026! Stay tuned for more details later this summer.

Huge shout out to all library staff and faculty, and Lakeland IT who worked tirelessly to make this possible!

E-Resource Update

Full-Text Finder Has Been Updated!

When searching our EBSCO databases (e.g. Academic Search Complete, CINAHL, Business Source Complete), you may have noticed that a "full-text finder" button leads you to full-text copies of some of your articles. This button has now been updated to seamlessly point you to full-text copies of your resources in the new Primo platform. The interlibrary loan request form has also been updated in EBSCO databases to incorporate a more modern structure. Enhancements like these will continue as we fully transition our resources this summer.
